October has hardly started, but part of Pennsylvania is already feeling cold.

Earlier this week, the National Weather Service in Binghamton issued a freeze warning and a frost consultation alert, with affected areas including several northern and northeastern counties in Pennsylvania.

“Frost and freezing conditions may kill crops. Other sensitive vegetation that can damage unprotected outdoor pipes,” read an article on the National Weather Service Binghamton Twitter page.

The chills in the Northeast are just part of this week’s winter weather pattern.

Newsweek reported similar winter weather alerts, with eight states hitting, with several having up to 6 inches of snowfall.

“The NWS warns that in Alaska, in Alaska, multi-inch snowfall can lead to dangerous driving conditions, while in Northeast frost and freezing conditions can damage outdoor vegetation,” the Newsweek story reads.

Frost consultations were also issued in parts of Colorado, as well as in Vermont and New Hampshire.

But at least early this season, the Northeast will not remain so cold.

“After Thursday night, we will be in a warm state, so there will be no frost/freeze conditions at least on the weekend at least mid-to-week,” OT Newsweek said. “In fact, in full sun, the general expectation of the 70s to 80s this weekend will be high.”
