This fascinating “wildfire drama” immerses us in noise, heat and danger'

Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera star in the true story of Hero Rescue in California in 2018. The movie is more “inner” than the real news video.

News videos of California wildfires have shown coveted disasters in recent years. But while frightening, these reports are not as heartfelt as the experience of watching the lost bus. Paul Greengrass’ fascinating movie – Matthew McConaughey is a school bus driver trying to keep kids safe in the fires around them, while America Ferrera, a teacher on board, is based on the true story of rescues in the 2018 camp fires, rather than being confused with the fires that destroyed the Pacific Pariscific Palisicle and senior Altadeena earlier this year. The green grass immerses all our noise, heat and obviously inevitable dangers in the fire.

Since the true story is known, we can make sure everyone is alive to the movie. The movie is ultimately about acts of heroism. This doesn't relieve tension, as the burning tree limbs land on the bus path and the sky turns dark with the smoke, so the day looks like night. The Lost Bus shows how dramatic articulates the story we might think of.

The film is so close to reality that the main characters’ names have not been changed. McConaughey plays Kevin McKay, who responds to an urgent call from dispatchers near the fire evacuation zone for any buses near the school. Ferrera is Mary Ludwig, a teacher who takes 22 young children to the bus with the intention of taking them where their parents are waiting in designated areas. But the fire is so uncontrollable that the journey is more painful than anyone expected. As the film depicts in some shocking early scenes, the faulty power cord triggers a fire, and a violent wind makes it spread so quickly that firefighters can't contain it. (In the whole process, to create dramatic fire scenes, production is safely set up, sometimes enhanced by CGI and real fire lenses.)

The noise of the fire is a huge ruthless rant, and it is a particularly effective way for us to share their experiences

Greengrass, known for his three Jason Bourne films and fact-based stories Phillips and United, 93, brought all his expertise here, causing suspense about the turbulent action and the characters' emotional response to dangerous ones. The noise of fire is a huge roar, and it is a particularly effective way for us to share their experiences. Kevin had to drive along winding roads, sometimes with too much smoke to be barely visible. Telephone service and bus radio descended, cutting off communication with the outside world. Kevin and Mary are alone.
