Kevin Durant joined the Houston Rockets in the offseason to start a new chapter in his fifth team. He is part of a historical trade involving seven NBA teams.

Durant has a hint of where he ends up, but never knows when it will be done.

In July, all speculation ended as his trade announcement rocked the NBA world. KD found this in an interesting situation – interviewed by hundreds of fans at Fanatics Day in New York City.

He has since fulfilled his new situation. However, Durant recently said that trade stinged him because he had always believed he had a deep relationship with the Phoenix organization. His trade was proven, and the two-time NBA champion finally broke the silence.

“I'm a little frustrated because you know. I feel like we've built a strong relationship – me and the Phoenix Sun,” He said in front of participants in the CNBC X Board of Game Plans 2025 Summit. “It’s a bit frustrating to hear another party.”

Durant and Suns fans

The Brooklyn Nets traded Durant to the Suns in 2023. Wearing the No. 35 jersey again in Phoenix, he served as another superstar at Devin Booker.

However, the two were unable to lead the Suns to playoff success. The team reached the Western Conference semifinals but ended up falling into the Denver Nuggets. Then, the Suns quit in the first round against the Minnesota Timberwolves the next season.

As a result, Suns fans blamed Durant for all the team's disappointment in the playoffs. Although KD believes he has a good connection with the organization, it is obvious that his relationship with his fans can't say the same thing. So, in the end, he felt relieved when he finally left Phoenix.

“They want me to go. They get what they want, I get what I want.” Durant said. “We can keep going and wish them forward. Always remember my time there, but we're going to keep doing other things.”

Part of the game

Durant has been playing in the NBA for 17 years, so he knows the business side of the game very well, which is why he lives in the deal.

“This is just the name of the game,” He said. “So I got over it quickly and tried to figure out what’s next.”

Durant's next step is clear, he is willing to join the team.

“I'm just one of them. I don't care much about being a goat (the greatest ever), or being a veteran of the league, or watching me while I'm exercising. I just don't care much about that. I just want to come in and be one of them,” He said.

He is expected to strengthen the Houston Rockets led by All-Star Alperen Sengun and emerging young star Amen Thompson. Durant, 37, is approaching his twilight years and is seeking to add more information to his Rockets legacy. A new story is waiting as he chooses to leave behind all the heartbroken and disappointment about Phoenix.
