Detroit Tiger: The influence of Kerry Carpenter. What about left-handed men?

In “The Day of Roaring”, Evan Petzold and Chris Castellani debate whether the Detroit Tigers need more bats and left-handed pitchers.

  • The Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins 4-3 in 11 innings in Thursday's series.
  • Tarik Skubal allowed three innings in the third inning, but threw four points for the Tigers after that.
  • Riley Greene opened the scoring for Detroit with two home runs in the fourth inning.

Minneapolis – Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal shouted the same performance twice in the fourth inning: the first time he allowed a single to go to Edouard Julien, twice out, and the second time defeated Austin Martin for third place.

Both are F-bombs.

He was not satisfied with his performance.

But Skubal found a way to limit losses to three games in seven innings – he defeated the Tigers in 11 innings in 11 innings in the first of four games at Target Field on Thursday, August 14.

On the 11th, Gleyber Torres led the Tigers with the sacrifice flies.

The Tigers (71-52) not only won back-to-back games, but they also won a win in their third straight Skubal start, his fourth in his last five games.

Neither team could score in the 10th inning, with the Tigers throwing the twins’ free runners at home plate from first baseman Spencer Torkelson to catcher Dillon Dingler.

In the 11th inning, Tigers' free runner Colt Keith advanced to third base from right-handed rescuer Erriever Ramírez's wild court before scoring a 4-3 lead on Torres's Sacrifice Flies.

Right-handed rescuer Rafael Montero, who was acquired from the Atlanta Braves, won a fight with Byron Buxton in three games to end the 10th inning before closing the twins in the 11th inning.

Montero recorded the last four games in a win.

For Skubal, there were several negative numbers starting Thursday: 65 hits on 99 courts, a strike rate of 65.7%, 11 explosions on 47 swings and a WHIFF rate of 23.4%. His three-point shooting percentage is the second lowest in 24 games this season.

Here's the positive number: 10, just like Skubal's consecutive retired hits ended his start, the twins had only six hits and two walks in seven innings.

The result is important.

And his ending is better than the beginning.

The Twins scored all three games in the third inning: Julien led the singles 1-0, Ryan Jeffers led 2-0, and Luke Keaschall led 3-0.

Skubal trailed Julien with two balls before throwing a third tentacle up and down, Julien knocked down the right field with a 410-foot home run, the first left-handed batsman of the 2025 season.

The twins placed at least one runner on the base in each of the first four innings against Skubal, but Skubal disengaged them from the base in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to complete his outing.

Skubal has 2.42 ERA at the start of 24 times.

Riley Greene Rake

After the twins were marked Skubal, the Tigers fought with two runs at the fourth top.

Facing right-handed Bailey Ober, Kerry Carpenter tear the doubles to the right corner, then Riley Greene gave two home runs high with an 89.2 mph fastball.

Greene Homer cuts the tiger's deficit to 3-2.

In the sixth inning, Keith celebrated his 24th birthday – tied for Ober's fastball 3-3, followed by Javier Báez's lead doubles.

Ober made three runs on four hits and zero walks, struck out four times in five innings and threw 89 balls. He lowered his time from 5.16 to 5.15 at the start of the 20th.

The Tigers gained two epic captures in the late inning.

Both grasp the extra foundation of the twins.

In the sixth inning, Bayes finished the run catch on the warning track in the central field, taking the extra base away from Brooks Lee, Skubal on the hill.

In the eighth inning, Green completed a jump on the wall, taking the extra base away from Buxton, with right-hand rescuer Kyle Finnegan on the mound.

Finnegan was obtained from the Washington Nationals on the trade deadline deadline – beating the next two batsmen to end the eighth place: Jeffers (swing, 87.2 mph splitter) and Case Cedars (Swinging, 88.1 mph splitter).

He has not allowed to run in 6 innings since joining the Tigers.
