Refsnyder Homers as Red Sox Sweep Orioles returns from IL

Red Sox outfielder Rob Refsnyder home run Thursday when he returned from a nervous left tilt, helping Boston beat the Baltimore Orioles 3-2 to complete his first four O games since August 2018.

Romy Gonzalez's singles in the eighth inning proved to be a difference for Boston, who beat the ball 7-1 in his eight games.

Refsnyder missed 12 games due to slant force. The 34-year-old entered the day, hitting .272 with six home runs and 22 hits in 54 games, followed by the designated hitter for Thursday's series finale.

Alex Jackson headed to Baltimore to beat Houston and Boston 1-7. The last Oriole was Al East's first-place season-high 18 games.

Garrett Crochet surrendered to Boston twice in six innings. He eliminated seven, improving his season total to the best 214, two higher than Detroit's Tarik Skubal.

Jordan Hicks (2-7) then ranked seventh. Garrett Whitlock ended the threat by defeating batsman Dylan Beavers with two runners, lifting Boston out of eight-man jam. Steven Matz is ranked ninth in his second save.

Baltimore starter Cade Povich gave up his own home run in the first inning and gave up referees in the fourth inning. He allowed two runs in five innings and hit five innings.

The Red Sox also put first baseman Nathaniel Lowe on the paternity test list before Thursday's game and activated right-handed Justin Slaten from the 60-day injury list. Boston also selected left-handed Jovani Moran as Triple-A Worcester.

Boston has swept Baltimore’s four-game series for the first time since August 10-13, 2018.
