Real Madrid vs Juventus: Preview, predictions and lineups

  • by admin

Real Madrid and Juventus will meet for the first time in seven years on Europe's biggest stage, in front of a packed Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

The two European giants have faced off many times in the Champions League over the years, dating back to their first meeting in 1962. However, one of the most intense encounters was in 2017, when Real Madrid defeated Juventus and became the first and only team in history to win consecutive Champions League titles.

Much has changed for both teams since that night in Cardiff. When Real Madrid and Juventus meet in the last 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup this summer, the two iconic clubs will be filled with new faces on the pitch and on the touchline.

Since Real Madrid's 1-0 win in July, Xavi Alonso's side have won 10 of their next 12 games. The Old Lady, meanwhile, currently find themselves without a win in their last six games ahead of a crucial trip to the Spanish capital.

With El Clasico approaching, Real Madrid will not take any risks on Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dani Carvajal. Two defenders have returned to training after long absences, but they will still miss the game against Juventus.

Dean Huijsen, Dani Ceballos and Antonio Rüdiger are also absent. Center back David Alaba also joined three players in the medical room after he injured his calf against Getafe on Sunday.

Therefore, Alonso will have to rely on Federico Valverde and Raul Asensio to round out his defence. The new manager also faces a decision over Jude Bellingham: will the England international get the nod alongside Arda Guler, or will he be rested for this weekend's biggest game against Barcelona?

Real Madrid vs. Juventus predicted lineup (4-3-3): Courtois; Valverde, Asensio, Militao, Carreras; Guler, Chameni, Bellingham; Mastantono, Mbappe, Vinicius Junior.

Juventus' injury situation will intensify with the return of Fabio Miretti and Eden Gerova. Both players participated in practice ahead of Wednesday's game and were officially named to the Tudor squad.

The bad news for the Italian giants is that Grayson Bremer and Juan Cabal are out with knee and thigh injuries respectively. Juventus have not won a game since Bremer's absence.

The pressure is on for 20-year-old Kenan Yıldız to produce another magical Champions League moment for the Old Lady. The Chelsea and Arsenal target performed well against Dortmund but has since gone five games without a goal contribution.

Predicted lineup for Juventus vs. Real Madrid (3-4-2-1): DiGregorio; Gatti, Rugani, Kelly; Kalulu, Locatelli, Thuram, Cambiaso; Conceição, Yıldız; David.

Real Madrid have been beaten just once in all competitions this season and remain perfect in the Champions League under Alonso. On paper, the game against Juventus would be a huge test for the Spanish giants, but the Old Lady's recent form makes Wednesday's game a one-sided affair.

Juventus have dropped points in their past six games, with their last win coming on September 13. Now facing a Real Madrid side led by the seemingly unstoppable Kylian Mbappe at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Serie A side are likely to continue their recent struggles.

Prediction: Real Madrid 2-0 Juventus
