Los Angeles (KABC) – Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order that will create a task force to help oversee the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
Trump is expected to lead the task force with his cabinet members, which will deal with other issues in security and other games. The president is expected to sign the order at the White House around 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Such a task force is not necessarily unheard of, but is usually on a local level.
The “a massive bill bill” signed by Trump last month received $1 billion in security, program and other Olympic-related expenses.
From baseball at Dodger Stadium to volleyball at Anaheim, LA28 has released a list of venues selected for the 2028 Olympics.
This is because city leaders continue to negotiate the use of police and traffic officers and other employees that may be needed during the Olympics.
“The formation of the task force marks a step forward in our planned efforts and reflects our shared commitment not only to deliver the largest game, but also to the greatest game ever made in the summer of 2028,” LA28 Chairman and President Casey Wasserman said in a statement about the task force.
It is unclear whether the task force will encounter any push from La Mayor Karen Bass or Gov. Gavin Newsom, who are openly opposed to the president's deployment of federal forces to the city in response to protests against immigration enforcement actions.
