The Pittsburgh Steelers finally brought some extra receiver depth.

According to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz, the Steelers had signed Isaiah Hodgins before they faced the New England Patriots in Week 3.

Currently, DK Metcalf's 53-man lineup has five receivers, Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson, Scotty Miller and Ben Skowronek, Hodgins is now candidate to win game time in a future that is no longer out of reach.

Late in the offseason, the team pursued several options at that position without any result, although Hawkins was a solid pickup that had succeeded in the NFL-level Spurs.

He played at Oregon State, scoring 2,322 yards from 2017 to 2019 with 2,322 yards in 173 catches and playing with 20 touchdowns.

Buffalo Bills chose Hodgins in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, hoping he could build a rapport with Josh Allen in the early stages of his respective careers.

Hodges suffered a shoulder injury in the jam exercise, which put him on the reserve/injury list and finally needed surgery, Hawkins did not compete. The bill later gave up on August 31, 2021 and re-signed him to their practice team, although he only participated in one game that year.

Buffalo once again re-signed Hodgins to practice roster after not getting his initial 53-man roster in 2022, and was waived on November 1 when he finally joined the team's active roster that season.

The New York Giants demanded that he became a key part of their offense in the impossible playoff spot. In eight regular season games, by the end of the 2022 season, Hawkins recorded 351 yards and four touchdowns in 33 catches, while also dragging 108 yards in nine passes and scoring in two playoffs.

Hodgins stayed in New York in the 2024 campaign, but over the past two years he has recorded only 242 yards in 20 games.

He signed a reserve/futures contract with the San Francisco 49ers in January and released in the final roster on August 26.
