Note: The program was originally aired on July 3, 2017.

In the next Charlotte talk: Susan Steinberg. After fifty years working at NPR, she retired. Stamberg, the founding mother of NPR and a pioneer in broadcasting, changed the voice of broadcasting because all the considerations were the first woman to be a nighttime news broadcast.

Back in 2017, she joined Charlotte host Mike Collins in front of a live audience at the Carolina Foundation. She discusses her life on the radio – including her debut as a “weather girl” broadcast and the feeling of being a lonely woman in a male-dominated industry. She also shared thoughts about new digital and social media as new worlds like broadcast hosts and more.

To celebrate her career, we revisited the conversation, filled with lots of laughter, behind-the-scenes stories and her personal thoughts about the future of broadcasting. Additionally, Mike provides his own thoughts on the influence and legacy in the broadcast.
