Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli may have broken up for good.

Earlier this month, People confirmed that the couple, who were married for nearly 28 years, had recently separated. The actress' agent, Elizabeth March, said in a statement that Loughlin and Giannulli are “separating and temporarily ending their marriage.” But many noted that “no legal proceedings” have been initiated.

Now, a source tells PEOPLE exclusively that the couple’s turmoil over the past few years has “put a strain on their marriage.”

Sources say Loughlin, 61, and Giannulli, 62, “went through the fallout of college admissions and the ordeal of jail time together” and “things have never been the same.”

Loughlin's rep has not yet commented, and when contacted by People, Giannulli said he had “zero comment.”

In 2020, they were accused of paying $500,000 to get their daughters Olivia and Bella into the University of Southern California and later pleaded guilty to wire and mail fraud. Loughlin was sentenced to two months in prison and Giannulli was sentenced to five months.

Now that the two exes are “separated and moving on with different priorities,” “Lori feels betrayed,” the source added.

“This is not a happy situation for her,” the source continued. “They are in very different places now and it is unlikely that they will find their way back together.”

After news of the couple's separation broke, another source close to the family told People how their daughters Olivia, 26, and Bella, 27, are coping.

“There's no drama or resentment. They've seen their parents work hard over the years and they're focused on keeping things peaceful and keeping the family close.”

The source said it's “obviously difficult, but Olivia and Bella aren't taking sides.”

“They both love their parents and just want them to be happy. At the end of the day, they just want everyone to be okay.”
