Detroit – The Lions put sophomore guard Ennis Rakestraw in the season-end reserve game.
Rakestraw had a successful shoulder surgery that would leave him out all year round. He quit Sunday's exercise early to assess a shoulder injury, which was serious.
“Yes, I mean, you hate this kid, you hate it. It's not his fault, it's just one of those tough deals,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said on Monday. “All you can do is try to make it better, heal, stronger and keep moving forward. That's all you can do.”
Rakestraw, who is confined to eight games in eight games while dealing with a hamstring injury, will play a bigger role in the upcoming season. Rakestraw was selected by the Lions and ranked 61st in the second round.
Rakestraw admitted it had been tough for two years, and he made an announcement to social media that he would be “coming back soon.”
