On Monday, Alijah Vera-Tucker told the media about being known as one of the Jets captains.
By Wednesday, his season was in danger. Alliance sources told sports.
Vera-Tucker is a big part of the Jets expect to be a big part of its offensive force: the offensive line, something the organization has worked hard to foster for years. It's fair to call Vera-Tucker the best player expected for the line. He stood out in training camp and dominated the running competition and seemed to be in good health, playing 15 games last year after a row of injuries in 2022 and 2023.
Sources say Jets guard Alijah Vera-Tucker may have suffered potentially serious injuries and could miss a lot of time.

Vera-Tucker, 26, switched his fifth-year choice in the first round of 2022, as part of his rookie contract – if they let him allow him to hit a free agent, he will likely be in the offseason, whether he is from the Jets or from another team. Head coach Aaron Glenn said at training camp that he hopes Vera-Tucker will be with the franchise for a long time.
If Vera-Tucker missed a lot of time, it would be a huge blow to the Jets offensive line-although they do have some debris that can reach enough lines, despite their depth being hit. Center Joe Tippmann may slide to right back and veteran Josh Myers (signed in the offseason) will serve as the starting center. Myers and Tippmann began competing this summer, although the injury news could invalidate the game.
The Jets practiced Tuesday; Vera-Tucker spoke to the media on Monday a few days after being appointed as one of six captains.
“I told guys, I'm so grateful for them voting me as captain,” Vera-Tucker said. “It's special for me, especially when the team votes for you…it's the best feeling. I'm grateful for that.”
