Special election results: Jackson County executive Frank White

The forward wants to maintain Jackson County's chiefs and royals? Well, you advocated them to go to Kansas, so I didn't know that's a good strategy. Jackson County Legislature received a heated exchange with legislator and county administrator Frank White on many topics last year. It's safe to say that they have a tense relationship. It's to the point where White no longer attends weekly meetings. He now dispatches staff. I asked him before recalling the election, if he had been a county executive, how the dynamic would work and how he would have changed it. One of the other major criticisms we hear from voters is your absence at a county legislature meeting. I know you've heard of it. I believe you have been to 1 or 2 this year. why is that? Well, Cody, first of all, I don't think people get anything. Me, I don't have to attend these meetings. I don't have to attend the meeting. Our structure is not a setup for me to attend these meetings. If I'm interested in seeing something, or if I want to say positive measures are happening in the county, I'll go. But our system is built like a state system, the governor, the legislature. I didn't vote. So when I attend these meetings, when I don't vote at these meetings, it will be a political attack on political points by a pair of lawmakers. Part of the conversations that are in these meetings are not important? We have always been part of the conversation. I mean, when we have plans to talk to lawmakers, we have individuals talking to lawmakers. I mean, I'm right across the aisle. We hold agendas every Monday so we know what’s on the agenda and make sure my Chief of Staff, my Chief Executive Officer at these meetings to answer their questions, I can always do it. I go to work every day, like I say, when they have something to say, I work with them. You have made public statements that in the last two and a half years in the Legislature, you don’t think there has been much done. If voters let you continue to work, how do you patch fences with members of the Legislature to try to transfer county operations? Well, Cody is my hope because everyone has to run next year, so I want legislators, politicians to be like anyone else when they run for office. Then the voters will ask you, what have you done? So they want to be able to say, I did, I did. I think that's one thing I hope for because I'm not, so I'm not going to run again. So that will allow me to do everything they think they might want to do because we do have a lot of infrastructure projects. I think we have about $40 million in federal funding. We need to leave. I invested $30 million in RFP for disadvantaged communities. So we can do something together that can make the county better. Then, you do have legislators who want to do things. What made you come back now? Let's look back. There are five votes. Five votes on the Legislature. That's the majority. Their vote was blocked. This is difficult. When the intention is turned on, it can penetrate when the dysfunction is dysfunction. So we have four legislators who really want to get things done. You get five people picking up things. They don't even talk to each other. So it's hard to break when you have an outside interest that plays a big role in how they vote and how they move. So I hope once the election is over, if I succeed, we can say, well, he will be here for another year. Let's figure this out, let's move forward, let's be elected. any. Who wants to be re-elected and go from there. You have said that no matter what happened Tuesday, you just said it again, you are not running for reelection. But then you hint to be in the election again, so you probably won't. so. Which one is that? What is your plan? Very likely. No, I don't see a good opportunity. I can't see myself running. No, it's time, you know? It's time to complete my term. Now it's time to continue enjoying the rest of my life. I know you are also fighting county-level recall elections in court. Will you respect the results of this election? Well, you plan the process, you know, you have to ask these questions. You know, when you have more than two years of ballot collection, you have to question, when people outside you bring in collecting those ballot signatures, you have to question these things. So if you don't question these things, I mean, you're accepting everything someone throws at you and don't even know what's going on. Therefore, voters always say the biggest. I respect the people's votes and you will respect the results of this election. Voters say voters are done. I'm done. I mean, I mean, I mean, I can't say the court might come in and say something I can't do. I don't say anything. But, you know, voters always speak loudly. Everything is respected. I think the only way for voters to overturn the people's vote is through the people's vote. That's how I see it. Is there a last sentence before Election Day? No. I just want people to go out and vote. I think the question they think they need to ask themselves is that I've been here for 11 years. I'm elected again. I really believe that there is a big confidence factor in my work ability, mainly because I am just not afraid to make difficult decisions. I'm not so political that I'm not making the right decision at the right time. Stadium voting decisions are the right decisions because I stand between the people and the wrong decisions that will affect them. So if I had to make a tough call, I would do it. I did it during Covid, you know, attracting our counties through Covid is not an easy process. From mask tasks to everything else, there is a lot of politics, a lot of politics that must be dealt with. So you postpone these things, and because, because. You, just like you have to separate things. It's like, well, Kuvid, it's not a political issue, it's a health issue. Then you just try to use common sense to solve this problem in the best way. But I am not the most political person in the world, but I am a very common sense person and I know how to make the right decision at the right time because I have a lot of families in town and the things I make about the decisions I always think of my family first because I know they will be affected because I have been affected from all perspectives of scale. And, therefore, you have to do what is in the best interests of the people. You won't please everyone. You won't get 100% of the vote. That percentage you will never get, they will never support your work. So, I focus on most. By helping most people, I will help these people. At t
