Formula 1 announces new Apple TV US broadcast deal

  • by admin

Apple TV has signed an exclusive five-year deal to become the broadcaster of Formula 1 racing in the United States starting in 2026, it was announced on Friday.

The Apple deal is believed to be worth $160 million a year.

The agreement follows the release of the “F1” film, which Apple produced in close collaboration with the sport.

ESPN's coverage began in 2018 and will continue through the end of this year.

ESPN said in a statement: “We are extremely proud of what we have accomplished together with Formula 1 in the United States and look forward to a strong final season. We wish F1 all the best for the future.”

F1 president Stefano Domenicali said in a statement: “We [Apple and F1] They are no strangers to each other, having spent the past three years working together on The F1 Movie, which has become a huge hit around the world.

“We share a vision to bring this amazing sport to fans in the United States and engage new fans through live broadcasts, engaging content and a way to stay engaging year-round.”

F1 arrives in the United States this week as the driver's title battle between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris continues at Austin's Circuit of the Americas.

Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen is also on track to win his fifth title but faces an uphill battle in trying to overtake the McLaren driver, who he trails by more than 40 points with six races remaining.

“We're excited to expand our relationship with Formula 1 and provide U.S. Apple TV customers with front-row access to one of the most exciting and fastest-growing sports on the planet,” said Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Services.
