Felix Auger-Aliassim has bragging rights in Montreal.

Fifth seed Auger-Aliassime defeated Montreal's Gabriel Diallo 6-2, 7-5 in the first round of the Swiss Indoors on Wednesday.

After Auger-Aliassime's serve won, the Canadians shared a long hug at the net.

This is the first ATP Tour meeting in the careers of two players who grew up together. Diallo is 24 and Auger-Aliassime is 25, although the latter has been on the professional circuit longer after starting to make headlines as a teenager. Auger-Aliassime is ranked 12th in the world after reaching the U.S. Open semifinals last month.

Diallo, ranked No. 41 in the world, played NCAA tennis at Kentucky and has emerged over the past few years.

Auger-Aliassime converted 4 of 12 break points, while Diallo had 1 of 4 break points. Auger-Aliassime also had a higher first serve percentage (78 vs. 67).

Auger-Aliassime, who just won the European Open in Belgium, will next face Croatian Marin Cilic.
