'Dynamite' premieres on Netflix, with mixed reactions from viewers outraged by ending

Kathryn Bigelow's new thriller, dynamite housereceived mixed reactions from viewers within the first 24 hours of its release on Netflix.

The film repeatedly tracks the 18 minutes after a nuclear missile is launched towards the United States from three different perspectives – first from the White House Situation Room, then from the U.S. Strategic Command, and finally from the president himself.

The identity of the man behind the missile launch has never been explained – it was Bigelow (director of war movies such as zero dark thirty and The Hurt Locker).

The film ends on an ambiguous note – the president (played by Idris Elba) decides whether to let missiles hit Chicago to avoid war or to retaliate. The missile's actual impact was never shown.

“I understand why they decided on this ending. I really do. But when I watched that movie, all I could think was 'people are going to hate this ending,'” one person wrote.

“I thought the first part was great, but then it started getting repetitive and draggy,” another said. “I didn't mind the cliffhanger ending, but this didn't feel like that at all. It just felt like an unfinished movie.”
