While several prominent Democrats are reluctant to give President Donald Trump credit for the Middle East peace deal, New Jersey Rep. Josh Gottheimer believes it should be given “credit where credit is due.”

“Obviously, thanks to President Trump and his team, this happened. I had a hostage here from New Jersey, Edan Alexander, and the president and his team helped free him, so we should give him due credit,” the Democrat said Tuesday when asked about his colleagues' silence on “Fox & Friends.”

“This is not a partisan issue,” he continued. “As Americans, we should all be very proud of our leadership and what we have accomplished.”

Gottheimer declined to speak on behalf of Democratic colleagues such as Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., whose social media posts did not mention Trump by name.

Other Democrats, including former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., joined Gottheimer in praising the president.

Gottheimer also mentioned the release of 100 hostages under former President Joe Biden's watch, saying: “We should praise them [the Biden administration] also. “

“This is one of those things that everyone involved, especially the parents, should be very proud of,” he said.

“Now, the key is to keep Hamas's feet on the fire because we still have to evacuate. We released 20 soldiers.” [living] There were still hostages yesterday, but you know there were 24 hostages who we believe are no longer alive and whose remains are in Gaza. We must hold them accountable until we get everyone out so these families can have closure and properly grieve. ”

He added that ensuring Hamas relinquished power and disarmed itself remained a priority.

“There's still a lot of work to be done. We have to work together, stop pointing fingers and get things done. To me, that's the most important thing.” [We saw] Yesterday, the United States provided great leadership. We should all be very proud. “
