College Football QB Power Ranking: Ole Miss'Trinidad Chambliss, Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia rises

  • by admin

Few quarterbacks are clearly elite in college football, and the ever-changing landscape continues to swing the rankings. There is a new No. 1 in this week's quarterback power rankings as former Level II transfer-turned Miss Trinidad Chambliss takes the lead. He is one of three SEC quarterbacks to enter Week 6.

Still, the Big Ten led all the power in four conferences in the top 50 with 11 quarterbacks, followed by Big 12 and its QB club. Dante Moore of Oregon excelled in Week 5 at Penn State’s White Out with a three-touchdown.

Before that, in Week 6, Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia headed to Tuscaloosa to balance Alabama's Ty Simpson, one of the most engaging quarterback duels in the SEC. Pavia has become one of the league's most productive organizers, while Simpson has poured into the unerringly efficient Heisman dialogue.

Iowa State's Rocco Becht and Cincinnati's Brendan Sorsby stood out in a sneaky big 12 game, a showcase for two talented quarterbacks. Since Week 2, Sorsby has carved an opposing defense.

These rankings are not Heisman's predictions, draft projections or season prospects. They are real-time responses to performance, tradeoffs, game pressure and production. So, this is the power ranking for the top 50 quarterbacks in college football this week.

2025 Heisman Trophy Roundtable: Dante Moore, John Mateer, Outstanding Candidate Until September

Chris Hummer

1. Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss

It's clear now that Lane Kiffin may start the QB1 mistake this season. The Class II transfer has won Ole Miss in Week 5 victory since stepping onto the injured Austin Simmons, beating LSU with 314 yards of passes, touchdowns and 71 yards of rushing. Chambliss continues to prove that he can handle the insurgent offensives. Last week: 5

2. Diego Pavia, Vanderbilt

Who knows where they would take advantage of the additional qualifications without Pavia's situation. He had a total of 6 touchdowns in the week of his 5th beat Utah and now he ranks the highest in the SEC's overall score and ranks the national leader with a percentage of completion (74.6%) and a pass rating (184.62). Vanderbilt will need this when facing a cruel rival to the SEC opponent in the coming weeks. Last week: 6

3. Haynes King, Georgia Institute of Technology

No one can win the way the King and Georgia Tech do. In Week 5 of Wake Forest, he won his 13th professional game with a touchdown with passes and rushing, breaking the yellow jacket's record. After lapses in every game in Georgia Tech’s first three games this season, King has made only one failure in his last 256 catches, no interceptions, and a total of 10 touchdowns. Last week: 3

4. Fernando Mendoza, Indiana

The ranking against Mendoza fell slightly this week after a close win at Iowa. Indiana's quarterback threw his first interception of the season but added two more touchdowns, but still gave him the best touchdown rate in the FBS. The Hoosiers sit in the driver's seat and return to the college football playoffs, with Mendoza facing a tough test in Oregon in Week 7. Last week: 1

5. TYSIMPSON, Alabama

Suddenly, Simpson raised the odds of the Heisman Trophy after leading the Crimson Trend to another victory in Georgia. The first-year starter is one of three quarterbacks with at least 120 passes so far this season. Led by coach Kalen Deboer, the offensive system started clicking, and coordinator Ryan Grubb perfectly customized the plan for Simpson's strengths. Last week: 5

6. Dante Moore, Oregon

Entering the Happy Valley and frustrated Pennsylvania in the “White Elimination Game” isn't a big feat, but that's exactly what Moore provides for Oregon, completing his 74.4% pass and making three touchdowns. The balance he showed in such hostile conditions underlines why he quickly became one of the most reliable and confident signal calls for college football this season. According to Fanduel Sportsbook, Moore is a bet favorite for the +600 Heisman Trophy. Last week: 12

7. CJ Carr, Notre Dame Cathedral

Carr has flourished in two pass defenses in his fourth power over the past two weeks, beating Notre Dame for 577 yards and six touchdowns. What's notable is his offensive end, with an average of 11.5 air yards per attempt – ninth among FBS quarterbacks, with at least 20 attempts per game. Last week: 29

8. Sawyer Robertson, Baylor

This clearly shows the dominant performance whenever the goal is shown to the opposing defensive coordinator the next day. Not surprisingly, Robertson carved Oklahoma high school with 393 yards and four touchdowns, with season highs per attempt (11.2) and completion rate (68.6%). Baylor quarterback now leads with 17 passes and 342.6 pass yards. Last week: 16

9. Josh Hoover, TCU

Hoover is one of the biggest falleners in the latest rankings this week. In his fourth game alone, he failed to lose 27-24 to Arizona State, and the Horned Frogs led 17-0 in the game. A key reason for the setback is that the highest target and wide receiver Eric McCalister is limited to 12 snapshots. Last week: 2

10. JaydenMaiava, USC

There is no doubt that Maiava's roughest season outing in USC's loss in Illinois, though he still threw 364 yards and two touchdowns. Both scores scored Makai Lemon in the fourth quarter, eliminating a 14-point deficit and putting the Trojans ahead after a successful 2-point conversion. Although he intercepted the season for the first time, failure was not alone. Last week: 7

11. Byron Brown, Southern Florida

Byrum has always been the driving force behind the Bulls’ start. His skills are perfect for Alex Golesh's pulsation and shooting offense, and if USF wants to compete for the U.S. Conference title and have a spot in the college football playoffs, it will require continuing to push the rhythm and stretch the defense over the next few months. Last week: 10

12. Luke Otmeer, Illinois

Altmyer rebounded from Illinois' blowout loss in Indiana to win the USC, crossing 300 yards for the third time since joining the battle Illini. He made three touchdowns and helped win the game-winning shot in a two-minute drill. It is worth noting that this season, Altmyer has not yet turned the ball over and even put it on the ground to keep the ball safe perfectly. Last week: 21

13. Joey Aguilar, Tennessee

Aguilar showed courage, overcame two interceptions, leading Tennessee to an overtime victory, quieting Mississippi State cowbells. He completed all six passes for 54 yards in 13 games in the fourth quarter, 75 yards on the game drive, then hit the ground with a decisive 6-yard touchdown percentage. Last week: 14

14. Brendan Sosby of Cincinnati

The Sosby Show is rolling. He was unstoppable after Nebraska’s minor outbreak, having 10 touchdowns in his last three games with zero interceptions. His 11.9 yards per attempt at 11.9 yards per game have been given at least 20 attempts per game since Week 2, bringing all FBS quarterbacks ahead, which has sparked a defense. Suddenly, Cincinnati looked like a potential contender in the Big 12. Last week: 48

15. Julian Sening, Ohio

His first road began since high school (!!), ending Washington's 22-game losing streak. He completed 10 straight times after losing three of his first seven passes before completing 22-22 goals for 208 yards, with two touchdowns at Ohio State. Last week: 28

16.Dampier, Devon, Utah

It's obvious now that the totally healthy dampness is Wayyy More effective than those who lose tech in Texas. Utah's quarterback looked sharp and decisive in West Virginia, completing 80.8% of the passes in the season-best 9.1 yards, winning Week 5 in Week 5. Last week: 20

17. Sam Levitt, Arizona

The shell's Josh Hoover is a huge boost to Leavitt's stock. The Arizona quarterback led the angry rally from below 17 points, threw two touchdown passes and added offensive scores. From mid-Q2 to fourth quarter, Levitt was almost perfect, completing 16 of 18 throws to keep the Sun Devils offense. Last week: 42

18. Rocco Becht, Iowa

Bercht finished 22 straight games with at least one pass, which was defeated in a victory against Arizona, but made up for that with a career-high three-point run score. The upcoming back-to-back road race in the Tornado will test whether Becht can continue to find ways to carry the offense. Last week: 26

19. Carson Baker, Miami

Baker doesn't need shocking stats to keep Miami unbeaten, but that could change. Hurricane headed to Tallahassee for a big showdown with Florida State, with Florida's secondary explosions limited to explosive games while also piled up takeaways. Last week: 17

20. Dylan Raiola of Nebraska

Statistically speaking, Raola has performed as a top 10 quarterback in the FBS this season, but some flaws still keep him away from the elite level. Better protection can smooth these rough edges, giving him more chances to push the ball down the field. Still, without Raola, Nebraska's offense looked ordinary—he was the difference between respect and irrelevant. Last week: 18

twenty one. Darian Mensah, Duke

Last week: 22

twenty two. Jeron Daniels, Kansas

Last week: 24

23. Bobla, Missouri
