Tampa, Florida – Closing arguments began in the trial of a woman accused of stalking Jacksonville rapper Charles Jones, known as “Julio Foolio.”
Alicia Andrews, 21, is the first of five people charged in the shooting to go to trial. She is the only defendant in the case who does not face the death penalty.
Jones, 26, was ambushed and killed on June 23, 2024, while celebrating his birthday in Tampa.
Court documents allege Andrews, Isaiah Chance, Sean Garthright, Davion Murphy and Rashad Murphy traveled in two separate vehicles from Jacksonville to Tampa on June 22, 2024, to find and kill Jones in retaliation for the ongoing Jacksonville gang war between 6Block and allied gangs ATK and the 1200.

Andrews took the stand Friday morning and testified that her defense attorney sought to cast Chance, her boyfriend and an alleged shooter as “abusive and controlling” who was present when Jones was shot but was unaware of the murder plot.
The defense showed the jury photos of bruises on Andrews' face. The defense also showed he became upset when she posted photos of herself on Instagram.
She said she didn't want to have a disagreement with him because it might lead to him hitting her or breaking her phone.
Chance traveled to Tampa on June 22, 2024, and she said she asked him what he was doing that day and he said he was “going out of town.” Andrews said she asked him if she could go and he told her to pack her things.
Andrews said she had no idea they were going to Tampa or the murder plot.
She said they went to an Airbnb she didn't book and later to two nightclubs that were openly advertised because of Jones' presence.
Andrews said Chance would take her cell phone and make calls, but she didn't know who to call and never asked him why. Court documents show Chance was making calls to co-defendant Garth Wright, who was traveling in another vehicle to Tampa.
At the first nightclub they went to, she could be seen wearing a mask on parking lot surveillance, but she said it was to avoid smoke in the air because she was pregnant at the time, not to hide her identity.
Andrews insists Chance never told her he was going to both clubs to look for Jones.
At this point, Chance was still in contact with Garth Wright and two other co-defendants, Davion Murphy and Rashad Murphy, on his cellphone, Andrews said. She said she didn't hear any of the phone conversations.
Prosecutors began questioning her about text messages sent by her friend in 2021 in which Andrews said Jones “needs to die.” Andrews, who was 17 at the time, said she was just “making small talk.”
Phone records obtained by the state show that Andrews spoke to Chance multiple times a day while in prison where he was charged with murdering Jones. She said topics range from trials to infant health.
Andrews said she still called him while they were in jail to “keep him entertained” because she was still afraid of him.
Andrews said she did not believe she and Chance were in a relationship, but added that he may have thought they were still in a relationship.
Prosecutors asked her why she was still afraid of him if he was behind bars, and she said a correctional officer told her Chance was trying to get other inmates to jump over her.
closing argument
The state said Andrews was actively involved in surveillance of Jones' location. Andrews was used as “cover” for Chance.
“She was a trusted confidant to her boyfriend, Isaiah Chance,” the state said.
The state said Andrews was well versed in gang wars and “had no love left in him as a result of Jones' death.”
