A viewer captured a video of the powerful wind of the moment, pulling branches on the roof shingles on Tuesday and dragging debris on a street in Carmichael on Tuesday.

Video by audience member Jason Grate captures some of the losses in the storm, which at some point eliminated power to more than 11,000 SMUD customers. KCRA 3 received photos showing other trees knocked down in some communities.

“It's very likely that the ups and downs are coming out of the thunderstorm, which just causes these winds and the damage we see in these areas because these thunderstorms are just rolling at very rapid speeds,” said meteorologist Dirk Verdoorn of Carmichael damage.
