The Saints are changing quarterbacks.
According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, head coach Kellen Moore has decided to promote Tyler Shough to QB1, replacing Spencer Rattler.
Shough played in the second half of Sunday's loss to the Buccaneers, with New Orleans trailing 17-3. He finished the game 17-of-30 for 128 yards and an interception. He also rushed three times for 12 yards while completing two sacks.
Shaugh did not lead the team in scoring, and the Saints ultimately lost 23-3.
Shough, who turned 26 a month ago, was the 40th overall pick in this year's draft from Louisville. He also took college courses at Oregon State and Texas Tech.
Rattler, who turned 25 on the same day last month, will come off the bench after going 1-7 as a starter this year. He completed 68 percent of his passes for 1,586 yards with eight touchdowns and five interceptions. He rushed for 167 yards, averaging 5.4 yards per carry.
Rattler has been intercepted four times in the past two games.
In 15 career games, Rattler made 14 starts and completed 62.8% of his passes for 2,903 yards, 12 touchdowns and 10 picks. The Saints are just 1-13 in Rattler's start.
Shaugh's first start will be Sunday against the Rams at the Los Angeles Saints.
