King, Gilmore earn ACC honors – Football – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

apartment- Georgia Institute of Technology Haynes King (Longview, Texas/Longview High School) and Kat Gilmore (Citara, Fla./North Marion High School) were named Atlantic Coast Conference quarterback and defensive back of the week, respectively, for their performances in the Yellow Jackets' 27-18 victory over Duke.

King totaled 325 yards of offense (205 passing, 120 rushing) and Gilmore filled the defensive stat sheet with 11 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, half a sack and two tackles for loss in helping Georgia Tech to a victory that gave the Yellow Jackets their first 7-0 record since 1966 and moved them to No. 7 in this week's national poll, their highest regular-season ranking since 2009.

King's second-half performance at Duke was particularly impressive, as he racked up 240 of 325 total yards and led the Jackets on four straight scoring drives to turn a 10-7 deficit early in the third quarter into a 27-10 lead with just over two minutes left. He capped off his stellar performance with a 28-yard touchdown run, his 10th of the season.

Georgia Tech's redshirt senior signal-caller continues to rewrite school records, most notably passing and rushing for at least 100 yards for the fourth time this season and seventh time with the Yellow Jackets, setting his own school records with 100 career passing yards and 100 rushing yards. With 205 passing yards, he also became the fifth player on the Yellow Jackets to pass for 6,000 yards (and the first to do so in three seasons at Tech). He also became the fourth NCAA Division I FBS quarterback since 2015 to have double-digit rushing touchdowns in three consecutive seasons and the first ACC signal-caller to do so since Louisville Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson from 2015-17.

Gilmore finished Saturday's game with 11 tackles, his most since transferring to Tech from Georgia State prior to this season. He helped Georgia Tech's defensive effort hold Duke, which averaged 36.5 points per game, to less than half its season average and to a season-low 68 rushing yards. Gilmore and the Yellow Jackets' defense were particularly solid in the second half as well, limiting the Blue Devils to 66 yards and no scores in a three-player span of 14 minutes and 53 seconds, which allowed the Jackets' offense to score on four consecutive possessions to turn a 10-7 deficit into a 27-10 lead.

This is King's third ACC Quarterback of the Week award this season (last: Aug. 29 at Colorado, Sept. 13 against No. 12 Clemson) and sixth in his career. This is Gilmore's first honor.
