I am far from perfect but strive to be a man of my word,” Cena shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “December 13th '25 will be my last match. I am so grateful for every moment WWE has given me. I am excited for December 13th and look forward to seeing all of you one last time.”
On July 6, 2024, Cena unexpectedly appeared at the Money in the Bank event in Canada and officially announced his retirement from WWE.
“Why am I here? Tonight, I officially announce my retirement from WWE,” he said.
He later said, “Thank you so much for letting me play in the house you've been building for so many years. Thank you so much for your voice, because it's really loud, and thank you for your honesty, because it's brutal. And most of all, thank you so much for allowing me to be with you tonight and letting the world know that we're planning something unforgettable, and that includes me coming back to Toronto to kick some ass!”
After a year in the WWE, Cena confirmed that his final event will be WWE Saturday Night Main Event on December 13 at Capital One Arena at Monumental Sports & Entertainment in Washington, D.C.
