Yankees part ways with Mike Harkey, Travis Chapman

Aaron Boone's coaching staff will have a different look in 2026.

The Yankees have informed first base coach Travis Chapman and bullpen coach Mike Harkey that they will not return for the upcoming season, according to sources. The club has yet to officially announce the changes.

Assistant hitting coach Pat Roesler may be moved to another role in the organization, a source said. Meanwhile, hitting coach James Rosen has been cleared to interview for an open managerial position with the Twins.

Third base coach Luis Rojas is no longer under contract and has interviewed for the Orioles manager position, according to SNY's Andy Martino.

Harkey is one of the Yankees' longest-tenured managers and was the club's last active manager, winning a World Series in 2009. He served as the club's bullpen coach from 2008-13 and 2016-25.

Chapman spent 13 seasons with the Yankees, including four in the major leagues as first base coach and infield coach. He also serves as the organization's director of infield.

“The only thing I would say is, 'Can we shout louder when he gets into the danger zone?'” Boone said.

Bench coach Brad Ausmus' contract is expiring. Pitching coach Matt Black and catching coordinator Tanner Swanson have club options for the 2026 season.
