Gap, in partnership with New York designer Sandy Liang, launched a collection of women’s and children’s clothing on Friday.
Liang graduated from Parsons School of Design and founded his own company in 2014, known for blending women’s nostalgia with the downtown edge. Her collaboration with Gap incorporates her most beloved designs into the reimagining of the Gap logo, from bow-decorated denim to coats. This combination looks cross-generational appealing, fun and durable.
“Every collaboration has its own handwriting—its own story,” said Mark Breitbard, president and CEO of Gap Brand. “Leung has fostered an active community and an iconic design perspective that allows her to reimagine our traditional work as something new but familiar. It is this creative partnership that keeps Gap at the forefront of culture all the time.”
Gap's previous year partner included Dôen, Béis, Harlem's Fashion Row and Malbon.
Inspired by Liang’s memories of growing up with Gap, the collaboration was achieved through an imaginative short film “Sandy’s Dream Closet” animated by renowned visual artist Annie Choi. Centered on a street in New York’s Lower East Side, the film depicts a dream of young Liang Shandy imagining the possibilities of future fashion, and Gap’s collaboration with Liang Shanshan represents her ultimate vision of self-expression. The video will appear on digital channels, including the brand’s website, email and social media, and will be played on the digital screen of the Gap store that sells the series.
The event was filmed and directed by Sophie Hur.

“Gap has always been the pinnacle of the fashion world growing up. It’s incredible that I was able to co-create with such an iconic brand that I cherished as a kid but still so important today,” Liang said. “Sandy's Dream Closet shows how wearing Gap makes me feel like I'm growing up, imagining one day I'll be an adult and what kind of person I can be. I want to reimagine them through my lens today – celebrating Girls' Generation in various forms while paying homage to the iconic styles that made Gap so timeless.”
As a new mom and someone who loved the brand since childhood, Liang said that his collaboration with Gap was a dream come true. “Working with the Gap team to turn my creative vision into reality is incredible from beginning to end. This partnership allows us to present the world of Sandy Liang to a wide audience in the United States and internationally,” she added.
Denim is the staple of The Gap x Sandy Liang’s collection, with its versatile silhouettes blending the aesthetics of the beam with Gap classics such as pleated denim mini skirts ($88), vegan fur short denim jackets ($128), and 90s low-waisted loose carpenter jeans ($108). The beam reinterprets the classic arch logo on the super heavyweight logo oversized hoodie ($118) and the heavyweight bow oversized hoodie ($108) to bring Gap’s signature wool to a new look.
