Connor McDavid agrees to extend with Edmonton Oiler

  • by admin

TSN's Ryan Ryan Rishaug reported that the Edmonton Oilers and superstar Connor McDavid had reached a two-year contract extension with an average annual price of less than $14 million.

McDavid apparently left the money on the table, less than a week after Minnesota field winger Kirill Kirill Kaprizov's record-breaking eight-year, $136 million contract ($17 million AAV).

McDavid seems to confirm the extension through a post on X and wrote “Our journey continues here.”

Less than a week after the deal was concluded, the Oilers general manager Stan Bowman said Wednesday that McDavid will enter the season as an unlimited free agent, although all signs seem to point as they were at the time.

McDavid entered his eight-year eight-year, the final year of a $100 million deal and has yet to commit to an extension with the Oilers. The team started the 2025-26 season on Wednesday, hosting the Calgary Flames.

“I have no expectations for that,” Bowman said last week when asked if it is obvious that no new deal is reached next week. “I think we are continuing with the [McDavid’s agent Judd Moldaver] Often, I talk to him almost every day and have a good chat with Connor all the time. I don't like making predictions, we'll see where it goes. ”

The 28-year-old superstar’s future has been the source of speculation as he said in June that he wanted to win the promise of winning in the opening ceremony after the second straight year of the Chessers’ second straight year in the Florida Panthers.

McDavid is a talent of a generation with three Hart trophys and leads the league in five of his 10 seasons.

Last season, McDavid recorded 26 goals and 100 points in 67 games last season with the Oilers. He added seven goals and 33 points in 22 playoff games.

More details need to be followed.
