John Candy's son Chris is opening up a new documentary about his late father.

While talking to people at a special screening on October 2 John Candy: I like me Chris revealed his father – the idea of an actor and comedian who died of a heart attack in 1994 at the Montalban Theatre in Los Angeles – would think of the movie.

Chris, 41, told people: “I think he'll feel uncomfortable, but this is someone who doesn't like going to the movie premiere.”

He added: “I hope, John Candy in 2025, he will work hard on himself to be satisfied with himself and then I know he does love himself, but yes, I think in that early stage he might feel a little uncomfortable with the whole thing.”

The documentary, to be watched on Amazon Prime video on October 10, weaving John's archival clips with interviews from some of Hollywood's well-known figures, including Tom Hanks, Steve Martin, Bill Murray, Martin Short, Mel Brooks, Katherine Brooks, Katherine O'Hara, Eugenelin Levi and Dan Ekroyd.

The film was produced by Ryan Reynolds and premiered on September 4 at this year's Toronto International Film Festival. It traces Candy's growth in Toronto, his earliest screen roles, and his fate in the 1980s, just like the fate of the 1980s stripe,,,,, National Lights Holiday(1983), Space ball (1987) and Airplanes, trains and cars(1987) – The latter inspired the title of the documentary.

Reflecting on the project, Chris said he learned a lot about his late father throughout the filmmaking process.

“I think what stands out to me is the impact his comedy has on comedians [watching],” Chris said. “I love Conan O'Brien, With Bob and Mr. David,,,,, Children in the hall. It was really an overwhelming feeling to hear Conan O'Brien talk about his direct influence, the influence my dad had on him, and then made me a fan of him – it was really an overwhelming feeling to see the connective tissue my dad had in the comedy realm. ”

But, Chris said, in addition to his father’s professional influence, the film highlights more personal ways John lives in his family.

“It's great to see the connective tissue between the two of us, and I think, I've found out he's gone for 31 years, I've found out he's gone so much, I have a lot of things that I've connected with me,” he said. “He's not there to tell me to do this. Behavior, the way we get up in the morning and make a sound, all of these human things, he's very much. So it's a real treat, and you can see me in him through the documentary, my sister, it's a treat.”

John Candy won the Founder Award of the Scleroderma Research Foundation at the 4th Annual Foundation Welfare Dinner on June 9, 1991.

Chris hopes the audience can find similar connections.

“I really want people to contact him because I've heard it a lot, 'He's my TV uncle. He's right next to me,' he kind of got his back and saw people.”

“But I hope that people who may be struggling with anxiety or the deeper issues we talk about in the movie can look at him and say, for example, ‘Ah, what do you know? I can also contact it, ask for help, talk to friends, or anything that needs to be done, or what, because we’ve come from such a tight time and we’re OK with it.
