Yankees put Jazz Chisselm, Ben Rice back to lineup 2

  • by admin

With their season line up, the Yankees were right on the mound, so a lineup was launched with the best players in the lineup.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Ben Rice both faced Red Sox left-handed Garrett Crochet on a night, which left them 3-1, against right-handed Brayan Bello in Game 2 of the Al Wildcard Series on Wednesday.

Aaron Boone tried to stack as many right-handed batsmen as possible in a crochet lineup on Tuesday, meaning Rice and Chisholm were on the bench in favor of Paul Goldschmidt and Amed Rosario.

With the Red Sox going from the main crochet to the left and right Aroldis Chapman, Rice never played, and Chisholm went into the eighth for defensive purposes before playing against Chapman at the base loaded at the bottom of the ninth.

Goldschmidt ended up playing 4-2, while Rosario was 3-3.

José Caballero hit Ryan McMahon on Wednesday also returned to the roster after José Caballero started at third base Tuesday.

Rosario could have played third base, allowing Chisholm to be second, but the Yankees valued defense as Max Fried on the mound, so they wanted to hit Caballero with his right hand in third place in Rosario.

The decision seemed to bother Chisholm, who conducted most of the brief post-match interviews with his back reporter.
