TOKYO – Carlos Alcaraz was injured but recovered from a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Sebastian Baez in the second round of the Japan Open on Thursday.

The world's No. 1 said he felt “feared” when he hit the first set 2-2. Alcaraz rubbed his eyes and held his left ankle, causing him to feel noticeable discomfort.

“When I planted my ankle, I was worried because it didn't feel good at the beginning,” Alkaraz said. “I'm glad I was able to play great tennis after that and do a good job of finishing the game. I'm going to try to get back to everything I have to do when I prepare for the next round.”
