Millions of consumers who use Facebook for 15 years are eligible to file claims in 2023, and the solution is a number of lawsuits filed by users against social media platforms that claim the company has improperly shared their information with third-party sources such as advertisers and data brokers.

How do I know if I want to pay?
Those who have received payment will receive an email from the Facebook User Privacy Settlement Administrator. The email address is [email protected].
The subject of the email is: Facebook User Privacy Settlement – Checkout and Distribution Status Update. These emails indicate that your claim has been approved and include your claim ID number.
When will the payment be sent?
The company began issuing payments in September and will continue issuing over the next 10 weeks, claims administrators said.
“You will receive additional email notification approximately 3-4 days before sending a settlement payment. Please continue to check your email during this period,” an email sent to approved claimants on September 9.
How much will I get?
The court application on September 5 disclosed that the average payment amount was about $29.43, and the maximum payment amount rose to $38.36.
Facebook users will receive a portion of $725 million after administrative expenses and attorney fees.
These payments are based on the number of people who filed the claim and how long each claimant uses Facebook for the 15-year period covered by the settlement.
Each claimant has a “distribution point” to “activate” Facebook account every month between May 24, 2007 and December 22, 2022. The settlement administrator adds all points all allocated to all eligible claimants and divides the net settlement amount by that number.
Since payments are based on the number of points allocated to each claimant, people on Facebook for a shorter time may receive a lower settlement amount. The September 5 document states that a maximum payment of $38.36 will be made on Facebook over the entire 15-year period covered by the solution.
