Sawmere River Main Road closed south on Faragate Main Road in Westchester County after some roads collapsed

  • by admin

Dobbs Ferry, New York (WABC) – Staff have made significant progress in restoring sewage puddles formed along Sawmill River Road.

On Monday morning, the driver was forced to bypass a section of a broken section of the southbound lane.

The northbound lane of Sawmill River Avenue has reopened, but the southbound lane was still closed on Monday afternoon due to some road crashes.

After all the rainy weather this weekend, part of the road collapsed.

NYDOT officials said their investigation is underway, but heavy rains appear to have exacerbated the deterioration of the 12-inch drain under the road.

Staff have been working since Sunday night trying to fix it all.

A sewage puddle opened and swallowed up part of the southbound journey at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sawmere River Avenue is located on Farragut Avenue in Hastings-on-Hudson.

The damage persecuted the authorities to transfer traffic to the streets in a busy manner.

Lisa Laciovano lives next to the main road and takes pictures of the sewage puddle. She also saw cars passing by on damaged roads.

“People screamed on the road. Apparently, they hit this inclination. The road started to bend,” Laciovano said.

All southbound traffic was transferred to the road on the Dobbs Ferry Lawrence Street.

The Westchester County Police Department is assisting on roads and related traffic detours on highways.

New York State owns and maintains the busy North-South Park Avenue, a key artery for commuters in northern Westchester and Putnam County who drive to work in New York City.

“On this morning on our way to the White Plains, we saw a bunch of southbound traffic on the sprained Brook Avenue, which will be one of the places people will be moved to,” Westchester County executive Ken Jenkins said.

A DOT spokesman said workers expect the southbound lanes to reopen later Monday.
