Fremont, CA (KGO) – Fremont police are investigating a fatal driving shooting Friday night when an unknown suspect opened fire in a parking lot that killed two people.

Police said officers responded to the 6000 block of Stevenson Avenue around 11:12 p.m. after reporting the shooting.

It happened near the Royal Palace Ballroom.

Police said a vehicle drove multiple shots at the victim.

A person died at the scene. The second person died in the hospital. Initially, there was a report that the third victim was. But on Saturday, Fremont police clarified that there were only two victims.

An employee of the Palace confirmed to ABC7 News that it closed on Saturday because there was no planned feature, nor because of the shooting.

On Saturday night, the Development Bureau Auto Club met at the Global Shopping Mall Plaza in Fremont, where car enthusiasts show off their cars.

More: Police say two people were killed overnight in a solo shooting in Auckland and multiple people were injured.

“Every Friday or Saturday, we're here, and it's usually very safe. We have about 100 to 200 people,” said club president Jack Chin.

Chin admits he is not sure how many people will show up because it is the same as the fatal shooting on Friday night.

“I think maybe some people are a little scared to come out. They are worried that something else might happen,” Chin said.

Meanwhile, police activities were conducted in the 1400 block of Shafter Avenue at night in San Francisco. The San Francisco Police Department directed ABC7 News to contact Fremont Police to ask if it was related to Friday's shooting.

Fremont police did not return the interview request. But on social media, it does confirm that this is the city’s third and fourth homicide this year.

“I'm not safe. I'm thinking about my kids. I mean I moved out of Oakland and lived in the suburbs. Even here, it's not safe.”

Lee grew up in Fremont. He hopes it's just a one-time shooting, which won't lead to escalation of violence.

Lee said: “The crazy period. It's with the ordinary period. I feel – it needs to bite things in the bud to avoid spreading. Or it won't happen again.”

Both the City of Fremont and the Police Department expressed condolences to the victims’ families.

According to the Fremont Police Department, the homicide was third and fourth in Fremont.

Police said the investigation was ongoing and asked anyone with information to call (510) 790-6900 to contact the Fremont Police Department's Investigation Department. Anonymous prompts can be sent by texting “prompt fremontpd” and then texting to 888-777 or online.
