“How many people with different skills, different strengths, the abilities we have, and the defense plan and how difficult it is to explain everyone,” Jones said. “I'm so happy to be playing with these guys, the people who play with them, how they perform and how strong that team is, and I think it's going to be an interesting team.”
Jones knows how important it is to have a strong offensive line in front of him and to be able to communicate with them. The Dolphins in 2024 have won one of the highest defenses in the league, ranking tenth in scoring per game, ninth in each game, sixth in third-decline conversion rate and fourth in red zone touchdown rate. Entering the 2025 preseason, the defensive line was rated as 11th in the NFL by Pro Football Focus.
“There are a lot of influencers out there,” Jones said. “I think we have a strong front line, so it's a good showdown for us. But there are a lot of good players, we'll study them and be prepared for that. Good players on the back end can do it, smart guys who can make the game.”
Sunday will be the first real test for Jones in terms of consistency and decision-making, with head coach Shane Steichen praising the experienced quarterback. Jones prides himself on producing positive drama, maintaining the drive and maintaining offensive capabilities, no matter what. With his six years of NFL experience, he knows how to balance games while staying smart.
“Understand where the ball needs to go with certain appearance, certain coverage,” Jones explained. Stay planned, generate positive plays, keep the offense moving forward, and keep the drive. I think all these things – obviously when the shot gets there, you want to be ready, when you have a big game, you want to make the most of it – but when we don't get the ball, you want to know, don't pick up the ball, get the ball out, get the guys to catch up and catch up and run when we have these opportunities.
