Joe Montana was selected for the San Francisco 49ers in the third round (82) in 1979 and did not start full-time until 1980, but soon showed clutch performance on the West Coast offense.
In the 14 seasons with the 49ers, Montana led the team to four Super Bowl wins (XVI, XIX, XXIII, XXIV), and won the MVP in two-thirds (1981, 1984, 1989). He pushed their first title to Dwight Clark's legendary “receive” in the 1981 NFC Championship.
Montana won the AP MVP twice (1989, 1990), was the offensive player of the year in 1989 and won eight Pro Bowl nods with three first-team All-Pros.
