Phoenix (Azfamily) – Travelers and the East Valley felt the effects of the monsoon on Monday.

The FAA issued a ground stop at Phoenix Skyport Airport around 5:30 p.m. It is expected to last until 6:30 pm

Phoenix saw 52 mph wind gusts with only 3 miles of visibility.

As of 5:45 pm, Apache Junction received 0.31 inches of rain while Mesa received 0.28 inches. In the Phoenix area, St. Tan Valley is nearly half an inch away.

The National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm warnings, including Cave Creek, Apache Junction, Queen's Creek, Florence and Fountain Mountain, which lasted until 5:45 pm

This was after several isolated storms moved into the Far East Valley.

Dust storm consultation was also sent to parts of Maricopa and Pinal counties, which will last until 5:30 pm

At around 4:30 pm, rain can be seen in Mesa near Interstate 24 and Ironwood Road

When we end our holiday weekend, people returning from the hills to the valley may drive through some isolated showers and storms tonight.

It will cool down at Tuesday and Wednesday highs, about 105. There are several isolated showers that have the possibility to reach the Phoenix Metro these nights, but more likely, we get some gusts of wind out.

The best chance of rain this week is Thursday to Saturday, with 20% to 30% storms in the valley.

A large part of the weather story later this week will be reduced temperatures. Predicted highs are in the 100 seconds lower on Thursday, with potential for the 90s last Friday to Saturday!

For the northern mountains, after several isolated storms today and Tuesday, the monsoon will become more active from Wednesday to Saturday, with more extensive reporting of showers and thunderstorms.

For southwestern Arizona, some heavy rain could take place on Monday overnight on Wednesday as a possible crowd of thunderstorms (called “Sonoran MCV”) take place in the area.
