Brookfield Zoo remembers Axhi, one of its beloved rescued brown bears.
Axhi is nearly 31 years old and was taken to the zoo in 1995.
After his mother was killed by a hunter, he was a cub in Alaska.
Earlier this week, Axhi had to be euthanized. The zoo said the bear's health has declined in recent months and he showed signs of worsening geriatric disease. The veterinary team must make a difficult decision and say goodbye.
His caregivers will remember that Axi is resilient, curious and deeply loved.
