Kelsey Plum explains Sparks' strategy to stop “big loads” Aliyah Boston

  • by admin

Los Angeles Sparks faced Indiana fever on August 29, a must-win game for both teams.

Sparks are currently 17-19, which puts them into the appearance of the 2025 WNBA playoff picture (currently, they are 1.5 games back from the Golden State Valkyries, and they currently have the No. 8 seed). The fever is 20-18, enough to make them temporarily the No. 6 seeds.

Although their regular season record may suggest, Sparks still have fevers at this point this season as they won all three games against Indiana in 2025.

Caitlin Clark is still far ahead with a groin injury, with a large portion of Los Angeles’ defensive focus on star guard Kelsey Mitchell and center Aliyah Boston. So far, Sparks have been under the guard of Boston as she averages 16.7 points (slightly higher from 15.5 points per game in 2025) and 10.3 rebounds per game (8.2 points from the season average, in three games against Los Angeles.

Kelsey Plum Honestly Guards Aliyah Boston for Sparks Strategy

Sparks Star Guard Guard Kelsey Plum talks with John W. Davis after practice in Los Angeles on August 28. At one point in the interview, Plum was asked how the Sparks Guards helped their frontcourt defense Boston.

“Yes. She's big there,” Mel said of Boston on John W. Davis' YouTube channel. “She can pass well, she is very skilled, she is very physical. So we have to make sure if we are in the area, please help. It's just inspiring. Great players are doing well in this league. You can't stand out and only make the best games. Because she won't be scored without points.

“But yes, I thought in the past, our big teams were really fighting [against Boston]so they will fight tomorrow. ”

Apparently, when Plum Blossom called her a “big load,” she praised Boston, who was very respectful of what Boston had fever in the court.

It will be fascinating to see Boston’s game against sophomore center Cameron Brink, who still hopes to find his groove after returning from the torn ACL that suffered last summer. Brink scored no points on August 5 in 16 minutes against the fever.
