FRISCO, Texas – Jerry Jones, owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, said Thursday in a speech on Michael Irvin's YouTube channel that he believes his deal with Micah Parsons “will make him the highest paid player outside the NFL quarterback.”

“No one appreciates Mika Parsons more than Cowboys or I,” Jones said. “No one can give him more money than I play football.”

As he did at the NFL owners meeting in early April, Jones accused Parsons' agent David Mulugheta because the deal was not finalized as the Cowboys opened the Sept. 4 opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

“When we wanted to send details to the agent, the broker told us to stick with it,” Jones said. “That's it, you know it.”

Since then, there has been no negotiations on the new agreement.

When Parsons made public the trade request on August 1, he said his call for the meeting with Jones was about leaders, but the owners quickly turned the discussion into Parsons' contract. He said there would be no deal without Mulugheta's participation.

Jones said he and Parsons agreed to the deal time, guaranteed money and total money.

“I agree to donate more than ever than anyone has ever offered,” Jones said. “I've done that. Now, I'm the cat who writes the checks. Now Mika has been away from the cowboy for three years. He has three years. At some point, someone has to say another word. At some point, it has to be like this.

“My job is to manage the checks, okay? Mika has to play. What is the least important part of the whole equation we are talking about? … an attorney or a broker, okay? He works for Mika.”

While attending the team's training camp, Jones mentioned “the person who guarantees close to $200 million” while discussing Parsons' contract. The Cleveland Browns' Myles Garrett has guaranteed the highest guarantee of $123.5 million, followed by San Francisco's Nick Bosa ($119.9 million) and Cincinnati's catcher Ja'marr Chase ($112.2 million).

Also on Irving's YouTube channel, Jones added: “In my opinion, we've settled the deal for the Dallas Cowboys. We've finished it if the agent wants to finish the details [do] And do all the paperwork, he can do it. We're ready to go, but as far as money, year guarantees are concerned, we've negotiated that. ”

Jones seems contented, leaving Parsons with a fifth-grade pick this season at $21.324 billion and considering using the franchise tag in the future. On Wednesday, head coach Brian Schottenheimer said he was confident that Parsons will play against the Hawks this season.

“We do have three years to get around this,” Jones said. “It's a basic contract. It's there. I did it with Dak [Prescott]. We disagree, so Dak played the final year of his contract and then we joined him. So that's exactly what happened to Dak, we moved forward and we ended up getting the contract and making Dak the highest-paid player in the NFL. So the precedent is dealing with it like Dak. …If he doesn't, it's very expensive. This is very expensive for everyone. ”
