East Molin School turns to AI for lesson planning, problem solving and more

East Moline School is using Magic School tools like AI to create courses and help students prepare for the future.

East Molin, Illinois – East Molin School further uses artificial intelligence as a classroom tool to introduce students to platforms designed to personalize learning.

The region is turning to a program called Magic School AI, which generates lesson plans, math word problems and even jokes.

“It provides us with a lot of abilities, at grade level, below grade level and above,” said Alex Mayszak, Director of Digital Learning and Innovation.

Mayszak said the technology will not replace core skills or critical thinking.

“If you just uninstall all the ideas and ideas that do so, that's the problem. We need to make sure we have a basic level of knowledge, skills and we have the ability to know when it's appropriate and when it's not.”

In Aiden Michna’s classroom, students are already learning to recognize images generated by AI.

“We're talking about it all the time. Don't fall into society today. It's getting harder to determine what is real and what is fake, what is a good source of information and what is not a good source,” Michna said.

Mayszak added that AI can help close educational gaps, especially for students with learning challenges or those who speak different languages.

“How we meet the needs of students who have a disability or struggle with concepts, how we use it,” he said.

Students say they understand the importance of adapting to a changing world.

“As the world is in its state and the way it will be in the future, AI will be an important part of it,” said one student.
