Kylan Darnell of the University of Alabama has only two days of her social events this year, and she quickly gained social media reputation in 2022 for viral recruitment videos and announced that she will step back from attending senior recruitment.
Kylan is known as the Queen of Bama Rush in her freshman year.
But, she told people that the pressure to be a public figure (especially during recruitment) caused a huge loss behind the positive personality she tried to show online.

“I've been struggling mentally during the rush,” Kaylan said. “It's a lot of pressure, and everyone is watching me during the rush. So, I decided to spend three days [break]so I can lower the bearings and then feel better because it's hard whenever your life is put into the world. ”
During her sophomore and junior year, Kaylan recalled that she “absolutely loved being Zeta”, telling people that sociality has become her “personality” and that posting it online is especially fun.
“It's so fun to share the other side, but now I've been struggling with chapters on social media and things like that, so I feel like I'm unfairly dressing up and acting like I've been my whole life,” she said.
For Kylan, taking a step back is not easy. Kylan posted a video of herself excitedly attending “Work Week” in the week before the recruitment, a week before the recruitment event where members of active social events gathered to prepare for the upcoming week and practiced through a mock recruitment party.

“To be honest, it's very sad for me.”
In addition to the usual demands for mourning members at the University of Alabama, it can often include the entire choreographed elaborate dance routine to social media dance habits to assembling themed costumes during work week, Kylan’s sister Izzy will also be recruiting for the first time in Alabama.
“I decided to take a step back because there was only a lot of online stuff between me and my sister, which was hard for me,” Kellan explained.
Comparing her Bama Rush experience with her sister, she points to a lot of changes in the past few years, especially with the rise of social media. Over the years, Kylan's own social media 510K on Tiktok and Instagram has soared to 1.2 million.

Despite her own social media reputation, Kylan may be shocked by the advice of potential new members of the University of Alabama.

“For future PNM, I just won’t post,” she said. “I’m sad that I’ve been posting online for this time and have the girls think they should do it, but I just realized that the conversation about social and college, if girls post online and they don’t choose them, I just find it frustrating.”

After years of recruiting and socializing, what she now gains for potential new members is to make sure they are true to themselves.
“I'll tell them to be themselves. Actually, it's just not actually the girl characters that form the Southern Sisters. Keep their personality because I noticed myself, in the first year, whenever I first fell into mourning, I changed a lot and then I had to find myself again.”
Although she was frustrated with some aspects of Greek life, Kylan shared that she did not intend to get rid of her mourning before graduation. “I want to graduate and have that,” she said. “We all stay in touch because they are my girls, we have them and we are planning a summer girl trip every summer.”
As she gets out of Bama Rush's strong spotlight, Kylan is also preparing to taste her last year on campus. “I’m so excited about the days of the game. I’m so excited to graduate and have a job as a big girl. I’m so excited for a year of fun and a year of relaxation because my schedule is really easy this year.
I'm so glad to enjoy my senior year and fully enjoy its experience. ”
Going forward, sports broadcasters’ main hope is to shift her content from recruitment to what she calls “interpreting movement in a girl’s way” and document the transition from college to the real world. Of course, she has some projects in line and she may not be able to speak.
“I just wish I could share all the versions that continue to move forward from the university and school side, into the real world.”
