According to manager Dave Roberts, Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts may miss Friday’s opener against his former team, the Boston Red Sox for personal reasons.
Roberts did not specify a reason, but said Bates could be the opening match.

“It might be something happened, he might not be around, he has to deal with it himself,” Roberts said after beating the Minnesota twins on Wednesday. “He's all good, but, yes, we'll see.”
Betts, who hit .172 with 0.478 OPS in the last 30 games, has been recently moved to the lead to resolve his struggles. Since moving, Betts has made 3 of 17 shots on two walks.
It was an unfortunate season for Bates, dating back to the end of spring training, when he reduced nearly 20 pounds due to stomach problems, which would force him to leave the team's early trip to Japan and the subsequent two regular season games.
The year when the right-fielder turned shifting started, hitting the ball in the first 10 games.316, but things have cooled down since then.
Betts remains an elite defender, ranking third among active shortstops in saving defensive runs and tenth on the average.
Betts' plate discipline still holds his 11% strikeout rate (in Major League Baseball (MLB) 95th percentile) while swings and turnovers are only 17% (87th percentile). Bets hasn't hit the ball cleanly this season.
His hard hit rate (playing 95 mph or faster) was in the 19th percentile of the MLB 19th percentile, accounting for 34.6% of the time, and his average exit speed score was only 28th percentile in the profession, with an average speed of 88.4 miles.
By Wednesday, Bates had an action rate of .679. For eight All-Stars and seven Silvers, both will be careers so far.
